Art and Soul - Festival of Nations
Liberia is a country on the west coast of Africa. After decades of war, the past three years have been peaceful. The country is now re-building. New schools are being built, hospitals are being re-built, people are hopeful. Even the teen-agers who once fought each other, are now starting to work together on civilian projects.

Athens First United Methodist Church financially supports The Reverend Herbert Zigbuo and his wife, Mary Zigbuo. They are United Methodist Missionaries who work in Liberia. They have been missionaries in Liberia for 20 years. They have been there during the bad times but never gave up hope. Now, they are leaders in the re-building of the country. Later this year when they return to Liberia after a one-year furlough, Herbert will be the United Methodist Conference Vocational Coordinator at the Gbarnga United Methodist Mission Station. He will set up vocational training programs that will help train ex-combatants in civilian occupations. Mary will work to develop a program catering to the needs of disabled populations.

Our Art and Soul event consists of three portions:
1) An auction to raise $2500 to send to the Zigbuos through the United Methodist Church

2) A presentation by Sam Johnson. Sam is an Ohio University graduate student who grew up in Liberia

3) To hear an update about the Zigbuos.
